Consecutive Interpreting

Consecutive Interpretation is performed  without earphones. This type of technique is used when only one language needs to be translated.

During  Consecutive the interpreter is usually seated next to the speaker and listens and takes notes using a special technique; as soon as the speaker completes the first part of the speech (each part should not exceed 5 minutes of  speech) the interpreter takes the floor and translates what has been said.
In choosing this form of interpretation one must take into account that the amount of time granted to each speaker will double because of the time needed by the interpreter to reproduce the speech into the target language. When the interpreter begins to translate, the audience has already listened to the speaker for up to 5 minutes without understanding so the interpreter must produce a translation that is slightly shorter than the original without leaving out any information.
