Languages

THE SUBDIVISION OF LANGUAGES INTO A-B-C
  • A: This is the mother tongue and generally indicates the language into which the interpreter translates with the greatest ease.
  • B: The B language or “active language” can be considered as a second language for the purpose of interpreting and a language into which the interpreter translates very frequently.
  • C: The C language or “passive language” is a language that the interpreter understands perfectly but does not speak as well as the B language.

Interpreters translate only into their mother tongue (A language) from the C languages.
An interpreter might work with many C languages.
